AHG Swimming Badge #5, 11, 15, 16, 17, 19 & 25

 All of these were on March 29, 2015 unless stated otherwise.

 5. Have someone toss diving rings into shallow water. Retrieve them by swimming under water. Try to open your eyes under the water.

      I did this at a open swim in my town on March 29, 2015. I asked my mom to throw a diving torpedo toy into the pool. What happened was the torpedo fell to 13 feet down and i couldn't get it. At the end the lifeguard asked a middle-aged man to dive down and get it for me. That counts. Right?

11. Discuss the safety rules for diving. Learn to do a front dive from the side and from the diving board.

       I did parts of the badge with my Troop and part by myself. When I was with my Troop on March 8, 2015 we weren't able to do diving because the pool was too shallow. We did, however, talk about the safety rules. On March 29, 2015 at the open swim i did diving on the side and off the diving board. If you twist just a little it will hurt. Badly.

15. In deep water
  • Jump in and tread water for a minimum of 3 minutes.
  • Jump in, surface, and do survival floating on your stomach for 3 minutes
  • Jump in, surface, and float on your back for 2 minutes
  • Demonstrate a feet-first surface dive
  • Demonstrate a head-first surface dive, in pike or tuck position, and recover a diving ring or some other object from the pool bottom.

16. Demonstrate the proper form of three of the following strokes: sidestroke, front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke. Be able to jump into deep water, surface, and then swim each stroke for 50 yards without stopping.

       On March 29, 2015 at open swim I did sidestroke, backstroke, and breaststroke. This day ended with a lot of sore joints. If you are a beginner stop halfway and float on your back for a few seconds and keep going.

17. Wearing long pants and a long sleeved shirt over your swimsuit, and also shoes, jump into deep water. While treading water remove the clothing. Demonstrate how to inflate the pants and use them to float for one minute.

       This was so ... weird. I wear pants and a shirt over my swimsuit anyways because i don't like to show a lot of skin in a public place. I did what I had to do in a corner of a PUBLIC POOL full of people.

19. Demonstrate that you can continuously swim 200 yards without stopping to rest. Use at least three of the following strokes while swimming: sidestroke, front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke

       I used all the underlined strokes. That was painful but just because of sore muscles and you using all the energy. On each stroke I floated on my back for a few seconds just to catch my breath.

25. Demonstrate swimming underwater for 25 feet.

       This is kind of easy. Just push off  the wall and push yourself forward without touching your hands to the bottom.
